If you are looking for a good database program, try
Claris Filemaker Pro.
They are giving away Version 2.1 (16 bit) for free -
it works so well, I don't need to pay for an upgrade.
Finding out where it is and downloading - get G.Boyd's
How To series.

There's a wide assortment of programming and other computer-related
resources available for viewing on the MCP Personal Bookshelf, www.mcp.com.
However, I've never tried accessing this site by e-mail only means, so don't
know if it'll work.

Try http://www.jammed.com/newzbot-cgi-bin/group-search.pl?group=groupname
where you fill in the name of the group at the end, in the place of
"groupname"

Subject: Gopher binary download problem
Hello all,
Can someone help me decipher the following header so that I might
possibly get a binary file (opera) downloaded via my CompuServe
account. Evidently I get the "right" information to the Gopher
server but the return, in this case three sections, are empty. This
has happened on all my requests to a Gopher server.
I am particularly interested in the lines:
X-Split: After 3 bytes/message
as my command in the request is "Split=150K" (without the quotes).
and the line:
Subject: 3Dopera.exe
Where does the "3D" come from? ETX? End of transmission?
Thanks for any help you can give!
The header of one of the sections (the first) follows:

This is an X-header (not a standard SMTP header) added by the server in
response to your request. Most autoresponders add X-headers for their
own benefit. For example, on my copy of your posting I have added an
"X-Sorted: List" . I know this message was processed by procmail, it
was a mailing list message, and I sorted it to a special file.
Likewise, my autoresponder adds an "X-Loop" and some other "X" headers.
This is prevent infinite bounces or looping of mail sent to me. The
other X-headers show the processing that occurred.

The =3D or 3D are usually from M$ mail programs, especially Exchange
that have character sets other than us-ascii.
See http://www.geocities.com/CapitolHill/1236/nomime.html for an
explanation
