This a case where the name is need for most browsers to

My original question was regarding whether the admins
would take 'special' requests for sites with 'banned'
words. I was wondering if anyone had experience with
this. If they all said 'NO WAY' that would be enough.
If they do handle 'special' requests by examining the
target document for smut and then sending it on if it
is ok.

File names on astronomy sites do have names like
nakedobs.txt. There is littile a user can do to
change that except to e-mail the admins of those sites.
Most "professional" astronomy site are working on both
file names and content so that the files will pass
through 'Net-Nanny' and the like. Then again there are
porn sites that will pass through any 'filter', short
of a live censor.

I am the only one that gets stuff through e-mail.

I have no problems with filters and limits. They
protect this valuable resource. Seeing as how most of
the services are run by kind hearted individuals that
do this for no extra money, I am quite willing to live
with-out 1 pic.

Subject: Q: telnet and POP3
What are the exact telnet commands for marking the messages
on the POP3 server as read/unread?
How exactly the UIDL command works and how is it different from LIST?
What RSET does?
Is there one single command to delete all messages
on the server instead of DELE <n> for each message?
Are there any _16bit_ email programs/utilities that have the "remote
mailbox" feature (the kind one can find in 32bit programs like The Bat,
Becky Mail or Mailtool)?
Is there any simple (the way there is in Windows 9x) telnet client
compatible with Trumpet Winsock? (I have searched through the net and could
not find a good, simple 16bit telnet client which could connect to different
ports)
Thank you

There are none except using RSET to unmark messages marked for deletion.
>How exactly the UIDL command works and how is it different from LIST?
UIDL is called a "unique-id listing" for that message.
The unique-id of a message is an arbitrary server-determined
string, consisting of characters in the range 0x21 to 0x7E,
which uniquely identifies a message within a maildrop and
which persists across sessions. The server should never reuse
an unique-id in a given maildrop, for as long as the entity
using the unique-id exists.
LIST is also called a "scan listing" for a message.
In order to simplify parsing, all POP3 servers are required
to use a certain format for scan listings. A scan listing
consists of the message-number of the message, followed by
single space and the exact size of the message in octets.
>What RSET does?
Reset. If any messages have been marked as deleted by the POP3
server, they are unmarked.
>Is there one single command to delete all messages
>on the server instead of DELE <n> for each message?
Nope...
More information can be obtained by looking at RFC1725, RFC1939, RFC1957,
and RFC2449. See also STD0053.

The unganisha server has been defunct since 06Oct98. The two remaining
getweb servers are also down. The emailfetch server due to a system rebuild
and the healthnet due to a change in policy that eliminates most users from
accessing it (only for health professionals).
You will have to use a www4mail server...

Subject: Majordomo Postings in Digest Form?
Hi Everybody
I have 2 questions:
1.Is there any way to automate the procedure of getting
some updating web pages everyday via email? or more
complicated, to get the result page of an everyday search
action in addition with it's link pages automatically? (e.g.
getting the final pages of the links obtained from a search
query in a usual search engine like Infoseek)
2.Is there any way to get the postings from a "Majordomo"
mailing list in digested format? I've requested the "help"
file from some of this type of the lists and found nothing.
Thanks in advance,
Bobby

}Here in The Netherlands it was already a problem in 1970.
So, you will be the first hit with the 2038/2039 bug?
In standard C language, there is a data type called "time_t" that is a
"signed long" (32 bits) in most systems. Many 32 bit systems have
changed this to a "signed double long" (or some equivalent wording) (64
bits) to avoid problems with dates in early 2038. Some, but few, 16 bit
systems use "unsigned long" (32 bits, but no value below zero) for the
same reason, though that can break some older code.
Here in the USA, insurance companies avoided the Y2K bug early by being
hit early: Date of birth before 1900 needed to be supported, so they
ALWAYS used 4 digit years.

I have never seen them used as dust collectors, except when they have

}
I find that the biggest problem with the 32 bit systems is the
excessively complex GUI. What should be a simple call becomes a page of
code. What ever happened to the KISS (Keep It Simple, Stupid) method?

This may come as a shock to you.. but 'join' doesn't exsist, or in the way you want.
What you can do is, lets say part 1 is called GAME.PA1, part 2 is GAME.PA2, part 3 is
GAME.PA3, and part4 is GAME.PA4, and it was in ZIP format, you could do this:
at the dos prompt:
COPY GAME.PA1 + GAME.PA2 + GAME.PA3 + GAME.PA4 GAME.ZIP
meaning copy game.pa1 and game.pa2 and game.pa3 and game.pa4 together into GAME.ZIP

For Majordomo lists, it all depends how it is set up. Some lists don't have Digest
enabled because it costs more from the list provider, or they simply don't want to use
up disk space.

If the Majordomo mailing list supports a digest, then you would subscribe
to the digest version. That is:
SUBSCRIBE [listname]-DIGEST -- Majordomo mailing list digest version
SUBSCRIBE [listname] -- Majordomo mailing list, non-digest version
All Majordomo mailing lists support this method of subscribing. There is no
internal command like LISTSERVs SET command. However, the mailing list may
not support a digest version.

INHALT
1. Was macht der Downloadslave ?
4. Hufig gestellte Fragen (FAQ)
5. Anregungen
1. Was macht der Downloadslave ?
erhalten dann umgehend,
ihr persnliches Password zugeschickt. Wenn sie das Password erhalten
haben, ist der Dienst
fr sie freigeschaltet.
a)
Adresse (URL)
der gewnschten Datei hat. Die Betreffzeile knnen Sie leer lassen. Wollen
Sie z.B.
unser Programm Urlrequester per EMail anfordern dann sollte der Mailtext
wie folgt aussehen :
PASS:YOURPASSWD
http://www.downloadslave.com/UrlRequester.zip
Sie knnen auch problemlos FTP Adressen angeben. Pro Mail sind mehrere
URLs mglich,
Vordergrund sichtbar.
Stunden variieren.
Fehlermeldung "Unbehandelter Ausnahmezustand: Lesen-Fehler 6,
Pawortes). Fr die Funktionalitt bentigt UrlRequester Zugriff ber
die Ports
1500 und 1504. Sollten Sie also hinter einem Firewall (bzw. Proxy)
'sitzen',
Antwort.
A: Bitte achten Sie darauf alle Requestmails an [EMAIL PROTECTED] zu
senden.
angeben.
Q: Bei kleineren Dateien funktioniert alles wunderbar.
A: Bei vielen Onlinediensten (z. Bsp. T-Online, AOL, CompuServe, gmx.net
Request mehrere Dateien anzugeben
A: Entnehmen Sie die aktuell zugelassene Groesse bitte unserer Homepage
Account ber Downloadstatus selbst wieder freizuschalten. Achten Sie
fehlerhaft zugestellte Mail auffat)
automatischen Zeilenumbruch innerhalb Ihrer Mailsoftware gro
genug setzen (z.B. 255). Die Umstellung von HTML-Mailversand auf
Textversand
kann auch Abhilfe schaffen.

This is form that is processed on the web server through the post action.
This is not the same as making a web page with an HREF that automagically
launches a user's E-mail program with the fields filled in.
To do what you want to do on a web page, try this:
<!-- mailto with subject added -->
<A HREF="mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]?subject=Re: Web
Form">[EMAIL PROTECTED]</A>
<!-- mailto with subject added, CC, BCC, and body text -->
<A HREF="mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]?subject=Re: Web Form&cc=cc field
&bcc=bcc field&body=Body Text">[EMAIL PROTECTED]</A>
Remove and add &variables as required...

All servers are found at:
http://www.geocities.com/CapitolHill/1236/servers.html
Grab this web page from one of your favorite E-mail only servers...

Which FAQ? If you are speaking of the ACCMAIL FAQ, then it's up-to-date as
of version 8.1. Version 8.2 is due out some time this month.

Well I have been using it for 5 years and it doesn't always work. No big
deal. I've had answers from this server 2 weeks after I requested a file.
The rules for this and any other server are the same. If at first you don't
succeed, try and try again.
