Subject: bitftp@princeton down?

Hi all,
I have been trying to get some files from the princeton ftpmailer and
everytime it gets to the chdir command, it says that the directory does
not exist. How can this be when I just got the location from archie? Is
there something wrong with the ftpmailer at Princeton or what?

Thanks,
Matt

Even Eudora does that. Hold the shift key, and press Check mail icon. You
get options, opt for 'download headers' And you have a list of messages in
your mailbox. Later you can right click on the message and change server
status to 'fetch', or 'delete'

Dear Nicolas,
Well from what I can see you e-mail software or gateway always adds about
5 blank lines before the main text of your message.

Now www4mail considers direct URL(s) when they are within the first 5
lines of a mail message (blank lines are counted also).
My suggestion is if you cannot get rid of the blank lines then try to use
the XGET command as a prefix. Example

XIMAGE
XGET http://www.ictp.trieste.it

www4mail does not apply the 5 line limit when you specify a command.

Note: www4mail internally strips out all global commands such as XIMAGE
before processing user requests, so the returned mail(s) may seem to have
some lines missing, Any missing command was successfully handled.

Thanks
Clement Onime

Yes! it works! It's a bit tedious to parse the HTML code (I don't have a
browser, and am forbid to install one), but at least it's now possible.
XSOURCE works too, but GET and SEND don't.

Suggestion:
-----------

Can the GET or SEND command, used in conjunction with XIMAGE, return the
embedded pictures' url? It'll be easier for text users.

Thanks a lot!

Subject: Just asking something else

Hello Gerry Boyd

Thanks millions for your answer and for your very important work.

Ill try to bother you only one more time with all my questions at the
same time. Ill try to write the best I can but my english is not so
good. :-)

1-When I use WWW4Mail servers I put :
GETSIZE 900000
http://www.server.com/files/archive.zip
in order to get 900K split size but it never obeys, it always send me 300K.
Whats wrong?

2-Why does each part of an answered binary request to a WWW4MAIL server
always get 3 points of my quota? If I ask for bigger split size (if it
works) in order to get less number of parts, does it work to mantain my
quota?

3-Is it finally possible to put the ASCCII 12 character under win95 in
order to use the "More Complicated Servers"? Please, tell me how to do
that.

Now I want to help all only-email users. Im not a programer and nothing
like that but I like a lot not to write the complete format of a web searh,
or a gopher request, or an ftpmail request, so I have made simples text
scripts that work with the program called "NoteTab Pro".
Finally I only have to write down the address and do some clicks. If
someone wants to use it or discuss it just ask me for it. I have some
cracked sites and gopher/ftpmail format request in those scripts I use a
lot and they work fine. Maybe someone smarter can make contributions, it is
just needed to crack all important or interest sites and put them into the
scripts.
I was trying to make a script for "More complicated" servers but I cant
find the way to put the ASCCII 12 under win95.

I think I had other questions but now I dont remember. :-(

Ok, thats all!

thanks again.
Your friend from Cuba

Well normally I like to try something like this but I'm sorry, I really
not interested. I tried this before with Hotmail and it just didn't
work so I gave up with all these free E-mail web-based servers. It's
just to much work for something I don't need or use.

You don't start the chdir command with a slash do you? Something like,
chdir /pub/etc.

Personally, when I use the bitftp mailers I never use chdir but cd
instead, it never fails to work for me. See all my examples in:
http://www.geocities.com/CapitolHill/1236/howto1.html

Example:
General rules for using bitftp ftpmailers to get one large uuencoded
file.

open [ftp site] -- open the site where the file is located
chunksize 0 -- get one "big" uuencoded file
cd [directory path] -- change to the proper directory
binary -- it's a binary file; use ASCII for text file
get [some.zip] -- get the file you want
quit -- you're done here

You can't anymore unless you are registered Health Professional (I
posted the form a couple of days ago) or from a domain other that COM
or NET.

However, I have the old help files available on my geocities site:

You can also get an abbreviated version from Healthnet's web site:

Well you should have given the "gotcha". You need to download their
program and see this additional items:

<quote>
FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

What is a FREE-FAX anyway?
A FREE-FAX is a special type of email message. It's charecteristics
have been established by the International Telecommunications Union as
standard T37 for transmitting faxes over the Internet.

How does the sender know when a FREE-FAX has been received?
FREE-FAX Print(tm), and other T37 compatible devices, provides the
sender with receipt confirmation, so the sender knows if and when the
FREE-FAX has been correctly received and processed.

How do I send a FREE-FAX?
There are many ways.
You can send
- a text-only FREE-FAX using any email program or from some web browser
pages;
- you can send a scanned document using an Internet enabled Fax machine;
- you can use any of the following when connected to a PC
- - a document scanner,
- - a multifunction fax-copy-print device
- - some digital copiers.

Why do I need a separate email address, I already have one?
There is no standard way to distinguish between a regular email message
and a FREE-FAX that the sender and receiver intend should be printed
automaticaly.
By setting up a separate FREE-FAX Address, the recipient effectively
declares -
'email sent to this address is automaticaly printed, just like a fax'.

Why should I set up a FREE-FAX Address and not just use any second
email address?
There are several reasons :
- the domain name identifies the intention that this address be used
for FREE-FAXes
- the 'user name' corresponds to the user's unique global fax number.
This can be used by the sender should Internet transmission be
temporarily unavailable
- future enhancements to FREE-FAX may require the use of a permanently
available server that can provide recipient information relevant to the
sender, such as the color printing capabilities of the receiving device
or the recipient's public key to be used for FREE-FAX encryption. Some
advanced functionality designed to send FREE-FAXes directly to the
recipient's device will only function for recipients using the FREE-FAX
server, for example RocketFax(tm)

Will FREE-FAX Print work with any dedicated email address?
A basic set of functions will work with a 'normal' email address.

Do I need to set up any Windows 95/98 accessories or services?
Yes
-FREE-FAX uses the Microsoft Windows Messaging/Exchange/Outlook
Client... the Inbox on the Windows 95/98 desktop..to provide storage
for incoming FREE-FAXes. These are all FULL MAPI Clients...MS Outlook
Express is not a full MAPI client and cannot be used.
-FREE-FAX Print also requires the presence of the free Windows 95/98
imaging utility typicaly located at -
Start | Programs | Accessories | Imaging
you can set it up from your Windows 95/98 set-up CD-ROM.

I'm using WIndows 98 and cannot find the Inbox?
It IS on the Windows 98 CD-ROM click here for the set-up help page.

What about standards?
FREE-FAX Print(tm) can handle FREE-FAXes sent by many different methods
from the simplest email program to the new Internet-Aware fax machines,
because it complies with the International Telcommunications Union
(ITU) recommendation T.37 for Internet Facsimile Transmission. Any
sending device respecting this standard can send a FREE-FAX.

If I set up FREE-FAX Print does it stop me from sending or receiving
regular faxes using Microsoft fax?
No, it will even automaticaly print those incoming regular faxes, if
you set this up in the FREE-FAX Print Scheduler.

Can incoming FREE-FAXes be delivered to my universal Inbox?
Yes, FREE-FAX Print will do this by default. If you do not want
FREE-FAXes in the main Inbox you can set up a different Microsoft
Exchange/Outlook message file in the FREE-FAX profile.

Does FREE-FAX interfere with my regular Microsoft Outlook/Exchange Email.
No, you can even use the FREE-FAX Print Scheduler to organise
downloading of your regular email with greater flexibilty than that
available with Microsoft Exchange....for example you can schedule
day-time downloads only. FREE-FAX Print does not interfere with regular
email, it selects the FREE-FAX messages for printing based on the
FREE-FAX Address.

Can I use Netscape, Eudora or some other email program for FREE-FAXes?
You can use them to send FREE-FAXes but not to receive them....well you
could but they won't be automaticaly printed and may not provide the
correct receipt confirmation to the sender.

Subject: Re: bitftp@princeton down?

I have tried it with the slash and without the slash, with cd and chdir
and I get the same thing everytime. I have used this mailer many times,
but lately I keep getting this error. I also tried without the chunksize
command and I still got the same thing. I haven't changed anything that
I type from when it was working. Anybody else having any problems with
it or is it just me?

Thanks,
Matt

Binky ( [EMAIL PROTECTED] ) can handles unlimited files sizes. It's
also capable of splitting files into chunks, and letting your download
only certain chunks. To get more information, write to
[EMAIL PROTECTED] with "send help" in the body. (without quotes.)

All binary files larger than 300kB and smaller than 6 MB will
automatically get split into smaller chunks of 300kB each and are sent a
a MIME BASE64 attachment.

GETSIZE can only be used to set sizes less than 300K

WARNING: Your quota will considerably vary when requesting binary files
such as ".exe", ".zip". These types of files will account for 3 to 5 times
as much. Images such as ".jpg", ".gif" will account for 20 times as much
www4mail aims to facilitate access and searching of (HTML) Web documents

You need a plain ASCII text editor that allows you to do this. I do it
by hitting the Alt key and then typing 12 on the keypad. I notice that
this doesn't work in notepad or wordpad. However, I don't use either of
these programs so it's no problem for me.

I use a program called SPF/PC which I started using in the early 80s.
It mimics mainframe IBM SPF. I have been using DOS, OS/2 and Windows
versions forever. If any IBM types are interested you can see the site
at:
http://www.command-technology.com/

Unfortunately, they have discontinued all but Windows versions...

Why not try editing the file using the MS-DOS editor?

I'm not exactly sure what you mean. It is POP based, so you need to be able to
connect to the POP server to get mail. It isn't webbased.
