You may want to try Binky ([EMAIL PROTECTED]). I don't
recall what the max. file size is. Send a message to Binky
with the word 'Help' on the subject line and in the body.

Hello,
Surely the FTPMail, Agora, etc. statistics are fundamental to Accmailers.
When your favourite server goes down temporarily or permanently, what do you
do? You choose the next best one from those statistics. (Or you start your
own, which is what I am trying to do.) Why should one have to subscribe to
the statistics directly and get yet another boring bit of email?
And, let all right-thinking Accmailers praise Gerry for what appears to be a
thankless task.

"Hacking" web-based email accounts is a well-established sport, with its own
web-based discussion boards and hacker communities!
You would be well-advised to stick to the following rules, if you access
web-based email from any computer not under your personal control:
* Log out (sign off completely) after every session
* Uncheck any options to "Remember password" (on Windows machines)
* Do not use the same password as your mail account for other purposes
* Make sure you use a browser with the latest security patches installed.
There are attacks which take advantage of certain lacunae in the Java
implementation / buffer management to snag passwords
* Set the security level to maximum in your browser
* Beware of keystroke-logging programs which can silently log
whatever is typed
* MAPI worms exist which will silently mail your password to a hacker.
Make sure the latest antivirus programs are being run!
* If someone is really keen on grabbing passwords and have access to the
physical network / ISP server, wire-sniffing programs exist which can
lift your transmission - right off the wire.
About an year ago, my ISP had to completely revamp and install a new
operating system because it had practically been hijacked by hackers!
A little common sense can go a long way...

I did use the TPC service when I signed up for efax to test the account,
but I don't see how it would help users otherwise.
Anyone who is able to use the TPC email-to-fax service or web-based
interface should also be able to send an email directly to the intended
recipient - without the intervention of the fax-to-mail servers. As I
understand it, facilities like efax would only be of use to senders without
email facilities, or those who prefer fax over email for convenience -
implying that they either have ready access to a fax machine / IP-based
faxing or the fax call is toll-free - unlikely for anyone outside Chicago in
the case of efax for me.
The other possible reason for using fax would be to ensure a portable
document format for the recipient. But in that case, it would be better to
use the (free) Hotsend email addon program (for Windows users) which is
advertised with the efax messages.
The efax user should surely have a corresponding email account - or am I
missing something here?

I have already heard of this, x-stream, my service provider, provides a
0870 number to everyone who signs up which enables people to call it up and
either send a fax or leave a voice message.
The fax then gets sent in the form of a GIF file and voice messsages get
sent in the form of a .WAV file.
The x-stream home page is at http://www.x-stream.co.uk but to use this
service you must be signed up and have an x-stream mail account.

Pet peeve time. Please distinguish between hacking and cracking.
Cracker
An individual who attempts to gain unauthorized access to a computer
system. These individuals are often malicious and have many means at
their disposal for breaking into a system. The term was coined ca. 1985
by hackers in defence against journalistic misuse of "hacker".
Hacker
A person who enjoys exploring the details of programmable systems and
how to stretch their capabilities, as opposed to most users, who prefer
to learn only the minimum necessary.
I thought newbies, lusers, dweebs, and the media were the only people
that didn't know the difference between hacking and cracking. Shame on
you Sriram N. A. (:>)
I'm a hacker and proud of it !!!
BTW, The points you listed were superb...

No, I don't think you are missing anything. I just mentioned that I
thought it is was neat to have a US eFax number that somebody could use
TPC in another country to send a FAX to me without having to incur a
toll call.
I thought that would interest other users. It impresses me that even I
can use an eFax number (that is a toll call for me) to send a FAX to
somebody in Russia by using the TPC service or vice versa.
Like I said, I never thought of combining the two services and was
impressed. Yikes, you take all the fun out of something that made me
happy (:<) What with all the repetitive questions and (to me) somewhat
boring details I was happy to report something I thought was new and
exciting...

Subject: Finding out a list of e-mail addresses at a certain host. FINGER??
Is there a way of finding out or getting a list of all of the e-mail
addresses at a certain host. For example I am trying to find out the
e-mail address of somebody @x-stream.co.uk and I could work it out if I had
a list but how do I do that.
Also what exactly does the finger command do, I have tried e-mailing
[EMAIL PROTECTED] with the command finger <e-mail address> but it
keeps replying with the message "connection refused or host unknown" Any
help appreciated.
Thanks a lot
