Subject: .pdf files by www4mail

I sent for a .pdf file using www4mail with the TSOURCE command. The .pdf
file was large and came in three parts, each part was an attachment to a
separate email. When I tried to view using Adobe Acrobat, each part gave
the error "file corrupt" ( since each part was incomplete ).

How can I get the whole intact file as an attachement to one email only ?

This has happened several times when I have tried to get research papers,
so I need a solution.

I'd like to add here that I have learnt so much since I've joined the list
a couple of months ago. And once I myself have learned enough, I'd be very
pleased to help other list members out also. Thanks.

Subject: Q: Deja search code sequence?

I recently read G. Boyd's "wsdeja.faq" document. I tried a simple search and it
worked fine.
Please can anyone tell me if the extra fields that go to make up a more refined
search, such as "author", "subject" and "date", can be added to the simple search
string in any order, or whether they have to follow a set sequence?

I was going to try a few random variations, then I saw that in parts of the "Dogpile"
search procedure some of the search code fields are re-arranged in a particular way,
so I wondered if it might be the same for Deja.

TIA

Subject: POPping and forwarding web-based email

Questions keep appearing on the list on accessing web-based email, so I
thought the following might be useful.

1. Hotmail now supports what Microsoft is pleased to call the "HTTP Mail"
protocol, which enables functionality somewhat similar to IMAP using the
Hotmail service. One can manage messages and folders offline, and then
synchronize with the mail server. This substantially reduces the time spent
online to use web-based email.

The new Outlook Express 5 MUA (free with Internet Explorer 5) has built-in
support for HTTP Mail. Right now, AFAIK, there are no other servers or
programs which can work with the HTTP Mail protocol, but I expect a slew of
web sites and programs to jump on the bandwagon following Microsoft's very
successful experiment. IMHO, OE5 is a very good program for internet mail
and news, though I have some complaints about it vis-a-vis OE4.

2. Yahoo!, the other popular email service and web portal, provides a
couple of free features which usually cost $$: free POP3 access and
forwarding for your web mail! This has been something of an open secret -
but here's how it works:

The user signs up for the "Yahoo! Delivers" option to receive certain
targeted UCE. Once signed up, options to either forward Yahoo! mail or
enable POP3 access can be enabled. Cool!

A point to note: While one can download Yahoo! mail, SMTP services are *not*
provided (unlike Hotmail) and the user will need to have some other SMTP
server to send messages, or log on to the web site.

Just thought I'd better add that I understand that various context fields can be used

But what if several contexts need to be combined in one search, say "author", "date"

or do they have to be entered separately after the appropriate field label like:
"&subjects=genetic*&groups=nutrition" as it's structured in a Power Search query?

Subject: problem with internet mail

 Hi mailers!
People here are interested in using Intenet Mail as a default mail trasnport, (seeing
that it is faster) compared to Exchange. However, When installing Internet mails it
prompts you for the place wher you desire to store your personal forlder. When you
"tell" it you want your messages kept in a personal folder your system adm. has
created for you in a 24 hrs service Server It doesnt accept it. Whats the matter in
this case?

In Cuba we only know about Internet Mail, Pine, MsExchange. Is there any other better
than these one, especially one with full filtering capabilities?

Thanks in advance!

At Deja, everything goes in the ?QRY= field

So an author search on me would be ~a [EMAIL PROTECTED]
?[EMAIL PROTECTED]

To be honest, many of the search engines can have the strings
rearranged and still work properly.

I just retrieved the web page and noticed that they did rearrange the
order. I guess, I have to update the faq again <sigh>

Hi All,
I've a problem with WWW4-mail when downloading some web pages specifically
the abstract of some Bio-journals (for example
http://www.pnas.org/cgi/content/abstract/96/13/7137). Few months ago I
started to use [EMAIL PROTECTED] for this purpose and successfully view the
complete abstract of the article but as bnl.gov expired I started to receive
again the truncated web pages when using WWW4-mail (I checked the source of
the document and is certainly imcomplete). What is happening?

Yes, there are a lot of very good mail programs (Pegasus, FoxMail, Eudora, etc.)

I use FoxMail, but also I like Pegasus. Both are freeware, have good filtereng, good
folders, are very fast.
They work very well in any PC (386/486/etc, from 4Mb of ram)
Their zip files are little.

to get Fox Mail, locate the file fm21eg.zip (520K)
to get Pegasus, locate the file pegasus.exe 1778K)
(use archie servers to locate the files and ftpmail to download it)

I recomend you to try firs with Fox Mail.
To compare Fox with Exchange, think about a little supersonic Jet Plane comared with
an slow DC3 plane.
Fox load very quickly, it can automate the phone conection, has remote mail check, has
address book, etc, etc.
With Fox you also can import your old message files from Exchange, Outlock, Internet
mail, txt, etc

Try Fox !!

Yep, you can't combine in the simple search. You need to add the power

For the time being here is the power search:

Biochemistry
Purification of transcription cofactor complex CRSP

   Soojin Ryu and Robert Tjian*

and Cell Biology, 401 Barker Hall, Berkeley, CA 94720-3204

Contributed by Robert Tjian, April 15, 1999

Transcription of protein coding genes in metazoans involves the
concerted action of enhancer binding proteins and the RNA polymerase
II apparatus. The cross talk between these two classes of
transcription factors is mediated by an elaborate set of cofactor
complexes. For the activation of transcription by the promoter
specificity protein 1 (Sp1), TATA binding protein-associated factors
in the TFIID complex originally were identified as necessary
coactivators, but the identity of additional cofactors required for
activated transcription was unknown. Recently, we have reported the
isolation and properties of a cofactor complex, CRSP (cofactor
required for Sp1), which functions in conjunction with the TATA
binding protein-associated factors to promote efficient activation of
transcription by Sp1. CRSP contains unique subunits as well as
polypeptides that are shared with other cofactor complexes. Here, we
report a detailed purification protocol for the isolation of CRSP from
human HeLa cells. Our purification strategy takes advantage of the
ability of CRSP to bind Ni2+-nitrilotriacetic acid-agarose resin as
well as other conventional chromatographic resins. We also describe a
streamlined purification protocol that allows a more rapid and
efficient means to isolate active CRSP.
