You can open your inbox in editor (Norton Commander, MS_-DOS Edit
etc.)
and delete 25 headers. Don't delete the word "end" in the last
message.

In the US, The Federal Communications Commission (FCC) requires
certification of most electronic devices that MAY cause interference with
radio Communications. In some cases, this requires that the FCC itself
performs "type acceptance" certification. Many devices, including almost
all radio transmitters, and all telephones, carry an ID number tied to
this certification.

This database is a way to look up the manufacturer/model and perhaps some
additional information about a device, based on the above ID number.

Gee, how long ago was it that we got about 20 or 30 of these questions?

In yhis case, .UNK MOST LIKE stands for "UNKnown", in other words,
whatever named it had no idea what it should be named. A hex+ascii dump
of the first 64 to 128 bytes MAY give a clue.

Fcc: must be not a number, but the name of the folder where a copy of
the message is placed after sending it.

I encourage people to post to the list so that it doesn't appear that I
answer all the questions. However, I sometimes debate about whether or
not to allow a posting through, especially a post like this that is
clearly in error.

It has already been explained that an FCC id is indeed a number and is
required on any telecommunications device sold in the US.

Please, accmailers, if you are going to post, be sure of your facts
first... A simple mistake is a non-problem area and we all make these.
However, when a definitvie statement is made like the answer to this
question, then further misunderstanding ensues and causes problems for
all members.

Good question. I can tell you that the second document is using an old
PDF version. ver 1-1 is really old. New Acrobat Reader is up to version
4.0.

Secondly, using my dial-up 56K connection and Netscape browser I can
get the page to load but it takes forever - I mean slow. However, If I
use my DSL connection and Explorer, the page loads instantly. So all I
can say is that it has something to do with the site, the browser and
the connection and the version of the PDF document.

Use the ftpmail servers that allow parts commands...

Reference.com is still down. I use gophermail methods but they are not
the easiest. If you could get a one-time connection to the 'net, then
the MyDeja service is great. It requires a web page and installs a
"cookie" in your cache but after that all reading of selected Usenet
newsgroups is done by email.

Some users have reported success with [EMAIL PROTECTED] sending the news://
command. Unfortunately, this requires finding an active free NNTP
server to use. I have been suggesting that users retrieve this web page:
http://www.freenntp.com/complete.htm

I made a request of MyDeja to allow the signup by email methods rather
than the web page. Have heard nothing back since a "thanks for your
note we will look into it" response. Actually, it was a little better
than that!
