Subject: Advanced Google Search Strings (was: A New Search Engine)
Google has another fine feature for accmailers: you can make it
retrieve 30 or 100 search results in one single query. This works well
using www4mail servers. Google is fast enough to collect the search
results and not exceed the 88 seconds time limit of www4mail servers.
(BTW I have sometimes seen <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> even having a
244 seconds time limit)
The below search string will get you 30 search results in one e-mail:
get http://www.google.com/search?q=XXXX+YYYYnum=30&sa=Google+Search
The below search string will get you 100 search results in one e-mail:
get http://www.google.com/search?q=XXXX+YYYY&num=100&sa=Google+Search
In both strings, replace XXXX by the first search word and replace
YYYY by a second search word.

I note Gerry Boyd's remark about the excellence of the AltaVista search
engine in educational sites. I believe NorthernLight also has strength
in that area.

}First off, I searched all over the world for a driver for my modem,
}even the modem drivers IBM site didn't have any and suggested the
}maker. Fine, I tried that, no drivers for OS/2 for my modem. Fine, I'll
}buy an external model. Checked US Robotics -- no OS/2 drivers, Zoom --
}no OS/2 drivers, forget it, I'll just use a Zoom external and to heck
}with OS/2. Same thing happened with my Iomega Zip and Ditto tape drives
}-- no drivers.
}
[chop]
What "special" driver is needed for a modem???
A REAL FULL modem, NOT a "win" or "RPI" modem, should not need more than
the standard serial driver.
I know that older (2.1) versions of OS/2 had a slow version of this, with
the recomendation to use the shareware driver from another source.
What am I missing?
As for the other devices on your list, I can not help.

Hi all!
What's happening?
Just some months ago there were about several tens messages in every
digest.
But what do we see now?
7-10 messages a day.
Or all the AccMailers have become a good-knowers of e-mail-only Internet using? ;-)
All the best,
Dmytro Pavlov,

Subject: Downloading with ftp mail
Hi!
I'm trying to download Paint Shop Pro. I've sended the following to
[EMAIL PROTECTED]:
>open ftp.jasc.com
> cd pub/
> size 700k
> get psp503ev.exe
> quit
I've got back an attached file, 506k long, plus 8 uuencoded parts, 709k
long, except one (the last), 194k. First, it doesn't fit: the ftpmail
server told me it got more than 7meg of data (7-06-99 10:29AM 7023880
psp503ev.exe). When I add up, only 6meg are in my inbox! I've tried
many time, it always send me back the same things. Chunks are numbered
from 1 to 9, and i got all of them.
Then I do as instructed in the howto documents: I uuencode the first
part, then add it to the others with the Dos copy command. But the file
won't decode. I got an error telling me there's no end to my file. If I
add one on the last part, it decode, but tell me that data is
corrupted. The resulting .exe doesn't run properly.
What have I done wrong?
Thanks for your help!

Take your pick:
Summertime -- people on vacation
List membership decreasing
More and more people getting full access
Learned enough, no need to ask questions
Boredom
Too many off-topic postings (my fault as I'm too generous - this
posting is an example)
List is now 5+ years old and going through the standard phases of all
lists - newness, full activity, lots of interest, declining interest,
lack of interest, dissolution of list.

Sure if your ISP allows telnet access or you have a shell acount (I do).
Most telnet sites are limited to libraries for research and or lookups.
Very few telnet sites for full access to anything. However, a couple of
the Freenet sites are still in operation:
On the Cleveland Free-Net:

Warp 3 and 4 require more than a serial interface if you want to do
something different, like me. I dial into a shell account and run a an
emulator program so that I can have full access to the net and also
have my shell account. In this case, you need a device drive for your
modem. If I want to go back to 28.8 then I'm OK as a have an OS/2
device driver for a Zoom external and internal 28.8. Howerver, my 56K
is a different kettle of fish.
