The server is still working because I just now grabbed a 6meg file using
this.
are you sure you have put the correct Host?
Try this way.

        Split=512K
        Name=blahblah
        Type=9
        Port=70
        Path=GET /xxx/file.zip

Crossposted to Accmail and Help-Net,

Hello,

I just got good news. Did you know that the two getweb servers that are
declared as defunct still works? Well, I just got reply from one of them
today. I never would have found out were it not for this message from Alan
of seeknfind. But please do use these servers only for filling out forms. I
do not want us to go back using those www4mail servers again because I
frankly find getweb so much easier.

Please tell me where I can get a good html reader, one that I can use with
www4mail forms. I don't want to load Netscape Communicator because of space
constraints ( also, my computer is already slow enough)

Thank you

For about the umpteeth time you didn't receive good news. The two Agora
servers are not listed as defunct. One was possibly listed as defunct
when the I contacted the owner at emailfetch and he stated this on 7Aug99:

"With Linux Redhat 5.2, things have been going from bad to worse.
Right now
the system is virtually down. I will be trying to rebuild using the
old OS.
If and when this comes up, I'll let you know."

Because of this I notified the list members that the site is possibly
defunct. I did not receive a confirmation from the owner that it was up
and functioning fully.

The Healthnet getweb server is limited to Health Professionals and
users from domains other than dot-COM and dot-NET domains. This is in
the NEW policy statement. I received the information from the Chief
Information Officer in Apr99:

Get Web Policy statement

GetWeb was developed by SatelLife, a non-profit organization based in
Boston, Massachusetts, USA. SatelLife's mission is to provide information
and communications services to health professionals in developing
countries. Because direct Internet access is both limited and costly in
developing countries, GetWeb was designed so that World Wide Web pages can
be retrieved via e-mail, thereby saving time and money.

If you are a health, medical, social service, development, or health
informatics professional anywhere in the world - regardless of how you
obtain your email service -- you can continue to enjoy free access to
GetWeb. We also extend our service to users who are visually impaired.
However, to help us manage the system and its use, we ask that you
register
in the SatelLife HealthNet Database of Health Professionals. The
registration form is included below.

SATELLIFE HEALTHNET DATABASE OF HEALTH PROFESSIONALS REGISTRATION FORM

The SatelLife HealthNet Database of Health Professionals serves as an
information resource for people who are interested in health in the
developing world. You can add your profile to the database by completing
the registration form below. Health professionals registered in the
database will be able to:

** access the information services offered by SatelLife including our
global electronic discussion groups, electronic publications, and GetWeb
** act as a resource contact by choosing to make your profile, including
your name, profession, occupational specialty and email address, available
so that others can contact you as a resource person. If you wish to remain
invisible you can do so.
** receive periodic updates on health issues in the developing world

Privacy of information
SatelLife values the privacy of our users and will make every effort to
prevent spamming and other unauthorized use of the database. The
information you provide will not be sold or distributed to advertisers.
The
data provided will help us to inform registered members about current and
new services, develop new features based on user preferences, and contact
members for comment.

Please complete all the items in the registration form below. Thank you!

And in another message from the Chief Information Officer at Healtnet I
received this posting where they where going to restict access from
dot-COM and dot-NET domains:

"The GetWeb server receives about 4,000 requests a day which tends to
overload the system. The .com and .net domains represented a large
proportion of the users who requested a staggering number of documents.
 In
the industrialised world, where the majority of .com and .net users exist,
there are other ways in which one can get information. This is just not so
for the people we work with in Africa, Asia and Latin America."

So either the policy has changed (but not for me) or somebody is
declaring themself to be a health professional (I'm not) or they are
not in a dot-COM or dot-NET domain.

I always go to the source or copy exactly the messages I receive before
I make a statement that a service is DEFUNCT, has had a policy change,
or is restricted.

Glad to note that emailfetch.com may be still undead, but I am curious
to know somethings - As I had not used any getweb servers much, just to
get an idea on quota, on 07 Aug 99, I had sent the HELP QUOTA message
to both usa.healthnet.org and emailfetch.com getweb servers.

The healthnet.org replied immediately indicating their current quota for
most users is 200 per week. From emailfetch.com I got the late reply
with date stamp : Date: Wed, 11 Aug 1999 15:12:41 -0500.

Comparing the two replies, I found the message body in them to be
IDENTICAL but for 2 differences : 1) The reply of [EMAIL PROTECTED]
says : "Access to pages at healthnet.org and msh.org not counted towards
quota." whereas from emailfetch.com it is : "Access to pages at healthnet.org
are not counted towards quota." 2) The second difference is emailfetch.com
is less generous with current quota - only 2 per week compared to 200
for healthnet.org. But for these, the two messages are identical (including
a word with a typo error - "Wedensday") and so I can conclude easily that
they both are run by one organisation.

I had not kept track of changes to these servers, but were these two
servers managed by one party for a long time or is it a case of recent
takeover of the [EMAIL PROTECTED] by healthnet.org ?

Secondly wasn't access to this [EMAIL PROTECTED] restricted to
only health professionals in the past?

emailfetch.com is a private company that charges a fee for unlimited
services. The Getweb software is freely available and that is what this
site has installed. Because the original Getweb software was developed
at Heatlhnet (by Rolf Nelson), most of the messages (including typos)
would be the same. The only differences are the quotas and the for
profit motive of emailfetch.com.

>Secondly wasn't access to this [EMAIL PROTECTED] restricted to

They changed their policy in January and again in April of 1999. You
are supposed to be a Health professional and not have a dot-COM or
dot-NET address. It looks like something may have changed again even
though the policy document has not changed nor does their web page
state a change. I have received no new information from their Chief
Information Officer whom with I corresponded in the past.

Then try Opera -- it's small and compact and does just about everything.
Unfortunately, I don't have a simple location to tell you where to
downalod. The homw web page for you is: http://www.opera.com/index.html

Subject: NEWS: New Newsgroup site

Accmailers,

A new web site that allows reading and posting to Usenet called e-News
is now available for web-based users. The bad news is that the site
uses frames. The good news is that I got the unframed web page and it
uses a GET method rather than a POST. So at least you should be able to
get the newsgroups. It allows both for finding a particular newsgroup
or reading one.

Currently 39,114 usenet newsgroups are located here. If you want a list
of them (163K zip file) then use this address:
http://free.dorm.org//dnews/all_groups.zip

The site page [unframed] you want to retrieve is this one for www4mail
forms:
http://free.dorm.org/dnews/rr_news/dnewsweb.exe

Here is a copy of the stripped web page for those of you that want to
use Agora methods...

send http://free.dorm.org/

<input type="text" name="group" size="24">

For fun, I used a www4mail server and used this request to search the
alt.comp.blind-users Usenet newsgroup.

With some work no doubt you can reformat and fix up so you can have a
posting form for any newsgroup that you can send to Agora or www4mail.
I didn't bother trying to do it and leave it as exercise for you readers.

Good luck and have fun!
