Cross posted ACCMAIL & HELP-NET Mr. Boyd can you please forward this to list(s) or newsgroups that you are on/check that concern the vision impaired accessing the net? Thank you. Hello all, A while back (about 6 months or more) there was a discussion on designing websites for maximum accessability (I believe it was on Help-Net). A website for my employer (a department in a major city government) is going to under go a major overhaul and the current proposal is a framed site. I was wondering about the ability of the blind and vision impaired to successfully access this site as well any other groups that may have problems with such a site. I was wondering if anyone has anything to say if this would be in non-compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA). This is something that governments need to be incompliance with. The reason that this is being cross-posted is that it relates to Helping the blind access the Net and frames are an impediment to ACCessing the web by eMAIL. Making the site maximally accessible to 'disadvantaged' (read 'differently able' for the political correctness crowd) (both those that have limited vision and/or limited access) is important to me. I think that by forcing the hand of a local government on a relatively unimportant site may be a leverage point and possibly be precedent setting (potentially legally). Please feel free to send me mail directly. -- William Andrews [EMAIL PROTECTED] http://www.geocities.com/CapeCanaveral/Runway/3091/ editor http://dmoz.org/Arts/Music/Bands_and_Artists/V/Vega,_Suzanne/ ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 19 Aug 1999 12:28:54 +0300 From: venci vidov <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Subject: selective download hi I need to have selective download email messages. I mean, surely you can't be sitting around all day sending messages and timing their return ! Do you do a "ping" or what, and if so, can one "ping" any email address to see it is alive/usable ? However, since the site crashed it has been slow in getting back up and running properly. Hence, the limit of 2 per week. Hopefully, when all is well again it will go back to 15 per week. I wouldn't worry about payment just yet until the site is in prime condition. The main web page that gives the payment information is not working -- yet. When things appear to be back to normal I'll notify the list. -- Gerry Boyd -- [EMAIL PROTECTED] ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 19 Aug 1999 10:03:12 -0700 From: "Gerald E.
