Jrel,
thanks for your answer.
The problem is that Downloadslave sends zipped files in one block with the
zip extension and I'm unable to unzip them. The same problem happens with
executables which don't run.
Anyway I'll try "pkunzip -t" and "pkzipfix" on the next occasion.

I have faced the same problem with files from the Simtelnet FTP repository
requested via Downloadslave. Downloadslave does not send files in parts; so
there are no pieces to assemble.

A couple of earlier requests for executables from HTTP urls were received
correctly, however.

The native content-transfer encoding used by downloadslave for the FTP files
was base64; Winzip reported the same error while decoding from the email
source : "Start of central directory not found: Zip file corrupt. Possible
cause: file transfer error."

The problem has nothing to do with the number of attachments to the message
either...

I am yet to try PKZipFix though.

You can't. You must either use their online tools to update your site
or use ftp. I do all my web page updating via ftp.

Yes, you sure can... In fact any of the email only servers work with
web pages at Geocities. I know, I used them all at one time or another.
In fact, I usually retrieve one of my pages as a test to see if an
email only server is still working.

These email programs are for SMTP/POP via PPP/SLIP. There are other
protocols for email access. For example, widespread in [former] USSR
UUCP protocol. ISPs in former USSR give free russified "UUPC" packet
to UUCP users. "bmail" email program in UUPC packet has built-in
uudecoder and uuencoder, but has neither base64 nor quoted-printable
decoders/encoders. UUCP users can't use other email programs because
foreign email programs aren't russified. Standard Russian charset
for email (koi8-r) and standard Russian DOS charset (x-cp866) differ,
russified email programs "bmail", "mailx" handle necessary recodings.
There is a Win program "MiniHost" - interface between SMTP/POP email
programs and UUCP, but it's not free.

Some users have Internet email access via BBS, FIDO, corporate LAN
etc. and also can't use SMTP/POP email programs directly.

BTW, I'm astonished that you write about M$ Win 9* to people who use DOS.
For example, I use DOS on my 386SX25 4M and don't plan to waste money
for hardware upgrade only in order to install MustDie Win 9*.

If you been on this list since 1994 or so then you know I used Unix
from Jun 94 until Dec 94 when I moved to OS/2. In Dec 98 I moved to
Win98 and I mentioned on this list why. I still use my Unix shell
account but not for surfing or email. I also use Linux, but again not
for email or surfing. I have never really used DOS for the 'net
although in the late 70s and throughout the 80s I used DOS for BBBs and
Compuserv. I have on occasion tested DOS programs such as NetTamer and
Minuet but never really used them for serious work on the 'net. I also
did a lot of email, usenet and gopher work throughout the early 90s but
this was from a mainframe terminal emulator (OS/2) at work -- again not
DOS.

I mentioned my frustration about not being able to continue using OS/2
and I am stuck with Win 98. My DSL connection requires it -- maybe in
the future Earthlink will allow something else. The pseudo-slip
emulator (SLiRP) I run on my Netcom account still allows me to use my
shell account but I don't use it for email -- unless I'm forced to
resort to Pine because of some problem. Eudora is just a great program
and I really love it.

No doubt if I was stuck back in the old days, I would still be using
DOS. However, I'm fortunate to be able to afford new PCs and new
Intenet connection methods so I take advantage of them. I run this list
and still do things by email methods but I haven't really had to since
Dec 94. I still do lots of things with DOS, but the 'net is definetly
not one of them and never was.
