Hi acer users,
on my Travelmate 8172 I don't have any wifi after upgrading to 12.04

Does wifi work nicely on your travelmates with 12.04? Any help

My hearty recommendation is for you to take the Broadcom wifi card out,
stomp it with a hammer and replace with an Atheros or Intel. It is
insane how much of my life I had to waste in the 2.6.38 - 3.0 kernel
version range trying to fight kernel panics on system resume.

It is possible 3.1+ has improved, but Broadcom is what it is FOSS policy
wise. It's just not worth the battle.
