The fan on the compaq armada 1700 works properly in 2.6.16
but fails in 2.6.17?

So I'm confused why they are referenced here if the fan
is working in 2.6.16.
Note that the ACPI_COMPAQ_ARMADA_1700 patch referenced above
could never be a candidate for the upstream kernel,
as it includes a firmware override.
On the topic of firmware...
Please verify that your 1700 is running the latest from Compaq.
