(Yes this cures only a symptom) I remember seeing this behaviour a lot (like every minute) when copying at GBit rates from a fileserver to a SATA drive attached to a express-card controller. reloading e1000 and reconfiguring the interface would be needed every 1-2minutes sometimes 3minutes if the throughput was less.
