Len,

Loading the video module (not thinkpad_acpi), makes changing the brightness
setting work:

echo 50/100 > /sys/class/backlight/acpi_video1/brightness makes that the
brightness actually changes.

I've tested this withh kernel 2.6.24-rc6
The thin that is NOT working, is acpi support for this item: Pressing the
brightness buttons does yield the correct response (i.e. the correct and
supported acpi event), but no actual brightness change occurs.
I guess this an acpid issue?
