------- Comment #16 from [EMAIL PROTECTED] 2008-11-26 09:34 -------
Thanks for testing. No, CONFIG_PCI_QUIRKS is a (I see) new option that allows
to compile out the PCI quirk code but in this case the issue is in fact with a
PnP quirk.

Okay, so the issue is -- .26 and below fail for (at least) me, work for Walter,
.27 works for me, fails for Walter, .28 works for us both.

Both in the sense that the .27 fix is a fix versus a regression and the sense
that it's a non-functional soundcard (me) versus a non-booting kernel (Walter)
reverting the offending commit from 2.6.27.x would be the thing to do.

That commit _is_ the right thing to do and I'm quite sure I'm not the only one
with a BIOS that does odd things though; just the only one to have
reported/fixed it. In that sense and given that Walter's issue is probably an
obscure BIOS thing in the very same way (and already fixed in .28) deciding to
leave things be might be an option as well.

I obviously know how to have 2.6.27.x functional locally (and will upgrade to
.28 once released if needed due to this) so I'm fine either way.
