I am not surprised. Even after Intel integrated the IO-APIC into the ICH back
in 1999, most uniprocessor motherboards did not enable it, thinking that it is
only for SMP systems. MS in around 2000-2001 began pushing mobo and system
makers to enable the IO-APIC on uniprocessors too, even making it a PC2001 and
a Windows logo requirement. But MS made the requirement apply to desktop
systems only, thus it is not surprising that even as late as the Pentium M era,
not all laptops enabled the IO-APIC. My Celeron M laptop (ASUS A3N) does, but
not all do
