sorry, i felt what i had typed was a little wobbly, when it was doing it; the
gnome brightness applet was writing to that location as far as i know to change
the backlight level. it is not now and hasn't since done it again. i do not
know what could have caused it to have a "GPE storm" at that time, when i
reported the bug

also, i thought i did push on the bug :] suggestions welcome
