Not having windows to update the bios, I decided to pass
thermal.off=1 to the kernel and manage fan speed manually.
So I don't know if it is fixed or not.  I'll retry using
ACPI in a few days.  By the way, switching to x86 (I used
to use a 64-bit kernel) did fix one of my problems (I'm
afraid I don't remember what it was exactly, maybe something
related to the screen backlight), so it may be the bios
misbahaving in a 64-bit kernel.  But we'll see.
