--- Comment #2 from Paul Davis ([email protected]) ---
Same touchpad (ELAN0501, 04F3:3019) on an Acer Aspire E5-575G, Insyde BIOS
V1.47, BIOS touchpad
setting "Advanced", kernel 7.0.0-34-generic (Ubuntu/Mint build). Same symptom:
detected, taps
register, cursor doesn't move. Findings that may help:

1. The DSDT declares the touchpad interrupt as GSI 82, Edge, ActiveLow (TPD1
and TPDE, both
with I2cSerialBusV2 on \_SB.PCI0.I2C0). With that, IRQ 82 barely fires.

2. An ACPI table override changing only that descriptor to Level/ActiveLow
makes the touchpad
usable, but IRQ 82 then fires ~1,740/s even when idle. An i2c tracepoint
capture over 2 s
showed 3,487 of 3,487 reads returning 0xFF (the "no data" length), so the
line is stuck
asserted and the touchpad only works because it is polled continuously.
Occasional
"i2c_hid_get_input: incomplete report (14/60416)" errors appear.

3. Level/ActiveHigh on GSI 82: 0 interrupts, touchpad dead.

4. In every boot where the touchpad is not being polled (stock Edge DSDT, or
the ActiveHigh
test), the kernel reports "irq 16: nobody cared" and disables IRQ 16, whose
handlers are
   idma64.0, i2c_designware.0 and i801_smbus. With the Level/ActiveLow override
(touchpad
drained constantly) IRQ 16 stays quiet. So the touchpad's real interrupt
appears to land on
the shared IRQ 16 line rather than GSI 82, which may connect to the idma64
hypothesis in the
   original report.

5. The PCH GPIO controller (INT344B) has _STA 0 on this firmware. The pad whose
INTSEL is 82
(community 0xAD, pad 2) has GPIROUTIOXAPIC clear; setting it at runtime
changed nothing.

Attached: dmesg from Advanced mode with the stock DSDT, and the original DSDT.
