This is strange. A better place to ask this is probably the linux acpi
mailing list. But I still think your problem is related to a "broken"
DSDT.On acpi.sf.net are custom DSDTs with fixed BAT-state functions
for M6827NEUH and M6827NEUP. Do you own such a model? Why don't you
give these DSDTs a try?

I don't get the point why this is a poor solution? Well, anyway, you
can install acpid and (event) scripts for asus on debian via apt, i.e.
apt-get install acpid acpi-support
