Two ways I can think of to handle this:
First way (and more common) is to pre-select the current value in each DDL, rather
than allowing it to default. This of course precludes the idea of having the first
item as "Select Status".
Second way would be to avoid updating those fields in the database which still have
their DDLs at the prompt default value.

I hv a template column 'status' (set of values Open &
Close) as a drop down in an editable datagrid. Problem
is when I click on Edit button, the current value of
status (Say 'close') changes to 'Select Status' the
default/ first item in ddlist.
so, even if I don't intend to update 'status' it
automatically changes and gets saved with other
changes I make in the datagrid..
How can I stop the current value gettng changed to
default in ddl?
