I am very curious to know what TCP/IP layer everyone is using with Active4D, and why. I would really like to know the factors that lead developers to choose one web serving platform over another -- cost, features, etc.
ITK. At the time I began using it I needed to run server on 4D Client. In the future I might consider switching to 4D's web server.
Thank you for the response. I often heard this as a reason for not using 4D's web server, because of course there wasn't one for Client until 4D 2003 came out.
Why did you need to use Client as the web server?
If you recall I have a fairly large system that used to run under Netlink. At this time most of the old netlink-served pages are served thru ITK. New development is done in A4D. Older systems are being transitioned as time allows. This server for this system also serves about a dozen clients. With all the 4D generated pages I didn't won't to put the burden on the server. The web client also sends email and does automated data transfer with other systems in our research program via FTP. As is the client exposes too many potential points of failure. I wouldn't be comfortable running it on server.
