Hi,
I'm revisiting the design of one of my systems because it's becoming
a pain updating it.
Our application folder looks something like this:
Application
Application.comp
Application.data
Active4D
Mac4DX
Store
Items
Images
Modules
Web
.a4d files
images
previews
pdfs
If we want to update our application we have to send across a new
Application.comp and Active4D and Web folder.
This is fine, the user replaces the Application.comp file, they
replace the Active4D folder, however here's the problem, they have to
replace the contents of the web folder with the contents of the
update we send.
They can't just replace the whole web folder because it has two sub
folders "previews" and "pdfs" which are site specific.
These two folders contain jpeg previews and pdfs of items that relate
to the data file.
It would be great if the customer just replaced the whole web folder
and didn't have to worry about the previews and pdfs folder.
I'm sure there is going to be an accident one day where they do
replace the web folder and loose the entire contents of the previews
and pdfs folders (not end of the world as they can be recreated, but
it takes time).
So.....
I want to move the previews and pdfs folder into our "store" folder,
however this then gives me problems serving the contents of those
folders as they are now outside of the web folder.
I'm just looking for suggestions/alternatives at the moment, so any
ideas? I have a few myself but I thought I'd call on the wisdom of
the list.
James.
