If you set up your database to use a decoy root folder like Aparajita suggests (web_Decoy) and are using 4D 2004.x, then you no longer need to prefix Active4D form submission urls with "4dcgi/".

Maybe this is obvious but I hadn't noticed this until today. Can someone confirm that this is the case and that I'm not going mad!

It is true, it's mentioned in the 4D 2004 docs that /4dcgi is no longer required in order to get form variables through GET FORM VARIABLES.
