best 4D to use with Active4D in production (Rick Hazey)
We are running both a standalone 4D application with Active4D and a Server with Active4D. Both on MacOSX G4s Dual 800mhz with the same memory and OS version. Can not tell any difference between the two. The server version even has 20 plus clients connected and yet the webserver response is the same.
We switched from Windows servers to Mac when OSX and 4D 6.8 came out and have since upgraded to 4D 2003. We still have a 6.8 database running on a P4 1.9GHZ Win2000 server. Compared to a 4D 2003 Server running on the Dual 800mhz G4, the Mac beats the windows server by a factor of two for anything requiring data access, ie queries, add, delete modify records. The disk I/O really jumped with OSX. And like Aparajita said we have much less headaches now trying to keep the servers secure.
