Ajax uses XMLHttpRequest, which is a normal request which could be handled by Active4D. The result is expected to be in XML format. You can construct the XML within Active4D.

Actually, you can return any data format you want, it doesn't have to be XML at all. One format that is gaining popularity is JSON.
