not that I think this is really of any help, but I have had some months ago 
problems with a virtual hosts file.

At the end I noticed, I have had on the Server a editor with different defaults 
for line ending.
So after "save as" and setting CR for line ending and MacRoman as encoding 
everything worked again (this was 4D 2004). The problem was some entries worked 
some not. So I think there was a mismatch with different line endings.

So I´m not shure if this helps in this case.
