Michael,

I haven't done that but suspect it is possible. I work in a research
program that just moved a number of non-4D sites to AWS. I may consider
moving our 4D web apps there in the future. The person who set up all of
the various web, db, ldap etc AWS EC2 instances gave us a demo of how
things are configured. You can install redundant servers in different
zones (so they would not all run in the same data center).

I believe you can get a free AWS account if you want to explore the
options.
