Sounds a little untidy, to achieve this you would have to use NTDSUTIL to firstly cleanup all metadata references to the server from the production servers, then seize the FSMO roles from within the Lab. A much easier way to achieve the same thing may be to do a backup of one of your DC's (if one DC has the FSMO roles then let it be that one) and restore it to an alternate server within the confines of an isolated server (don't forget about your DNS services, they also will need to be present in the lab). Once restored seize any of the FSMO roles and if desires cleanup Server references with the NTDSUTIL tool within the lab. This approach at least leaves your production environment alone.
