Just an FYI to everyone; be careful with dynamic disks. We lost 190gigs of
user data after our 2nd extension. It is a known Microsoft issue for
multiple extensions. I haven't seen it posted in TechNet, so I hope I'm not
liable, but I know our hardware guys discovered this. It was a bear trying
to get either Compaq or Microsoft to admit it.

Hi andy,

Thanks for the help. Are you saying that if I make the disk dynamic, I will
be able to extend a partition on the fly. If that is possible how do I go
about doing that.
Thanks

As well as anything else you might try, you might want to check out making
the disk dynamic [if it isn't already].

...then move the data off the most under-used (or easiest to move)
volume/partition.

...then extend the volume/partition that needs more room into the resulting
space using the disk manager. That way you'd end up with 3
volumes/partitions, but the computer would see them as 2.

In that way you could accomplish what you want using the OS.

Using Partion Magic with the proprietary Compaq RAID controller is something
I would only do if I wanted to test my backups and recovery plan.

All the best,

Andy
