Did a little research just b/c, I found this post: "If your plan A is to use DHCP for your printers, and you are using HP JetDirect cards, then invoke plan B. HP JetDirect cards, firmware vA.5.0.5 and later claim to "support" DHCP. I don't think they quit reading the RFC before they reached sec 4.4.4. The cards will not renew their leases at T1 or T2 time; i's just not built in. (This was confirmed w/a call to HP support). Therefore, once the lease and WINS entry expires, the printer drops from existence; you must to reboot the printer in order for the printer to register. This is really disappointing from HP. Static addressing of printers seems to be the way to go."

In my experience, the configuration of DNS on a new win 2000 server seems to vary in degrees of success, I would attempt to install these on the PDC first. You mihgt have a better chance of a smooth conversion rather than an addition.
