Kevin is right. In Active Directory, there are Mailbox enabled users (which have mailboxes in Exchange 2000 that is using AD as it's directory), Mail enabled users (who have mailboxes in other mail systems, but have user objects they log into AD with), and Contacts. Contacts are simply listings of email addresses that act as a sort of 'telephone book' to allow users of Active Directory to look up email addresses for people in other mail systems. You can never log into a Contact, or use it to access a mailbox. It's simply a snapshot of what someone's email address is in a foreign system.

There is no mailbox to open. -----Original Message----- From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]] Sent: Thursday, May 02, 2002 11:20 PM To: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Subject: [ActiveDir] Opening a contact's mail I created a contact in AD and gave permissions to a user for the purpose of sending and recieving e-mail from the general contact. I am wondering what are the next steps I take so that user can stay logged onto the network as himself and open up the contacts' mail in MS Outlook? I've done this once before but I am forgetting a step this time. I've tried the "Open Other Users Folder.." in Outlook option but receive this message, Unable to display the folder, cannot open the mailbox for this user because the user does not have a server mailbox. The error is referenced in this article: http://support.microsoft.com/search/preview.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;Q280945 but I am still unable to solve the problem.
