One thing you should keep in mind as a "gotcha" when upgrading from Ex 5.5 to Ex 2000, and using an ADC - before deploying the ADC, go to your Ex 5.5 box and look in Configuration->Protocols->LDAP properties.  Click on the Search Tab.  Make sure the "Maximum number of search results returned" value is at 99.  I set up the ADC, then didn't see any replication.  Turned on ADC logging (on the DC I installed the ADC on) and noticed there were tons of "Administrative limit exceeded" messages.  Because I've done a few ADSI scripts, I've seen this message before.  At some point I had changed the value in the above mentioned location to 10; probably to keep people from hammering on my Ex 5.5 box.   Once I changed the value back to 99 (which I think is the default), a literal flood of replication began occurring.  This little trinket of info is not mentioned anywhere in Microsoft white sheets - could save someone else some time when "I did everything the instructions told me, but it STILL doesn't work......aaaahhhhh!"   BTW:  I just set up the ADC at this site yesterday, so this is quite fresh in my mind.   Also, if things go awry and you have to uninstall Ex 2000, make sure you always run /FORESTPREP and /DOMAINPREP before re-installing.       -Tom Barber Systems Manager Alfred State College Alfred, NY 14802 (607)587-3558   -----Original Message----- From: Rittenhouse, Cindy [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]] Sent: Wednesday, June 05, 2002 10:33 AM To: '[EMAIL PROTECTED]' Subject: RE: [ActiveDir] Forest Prep and ADC   Thanks, I can get it from TechNet, I was using the Guide to Upgrading from MS Exchange Server 5.5 to Exchange 2000 Server, and it left me unclear as to where the ADC was to be installed? I have an AD root domain and an NT domain. My AD root consists on 2 DCs only. DNS, DHCP, and WINS are in place. There is a trust between the domains.  I have read that it is best to run ForestPrep at this point, but my Exchange 5.5 server (a W2K member server) is in the NT domain. I have documentation that says ADC must be installed in the Forest before I can run ForestPrep. Since the Exchange server is not located in the Forest/AD domain, do I need to install the ADC on one of these DCs. Will it allow me to join an existing Exchange 5.5 Organization in an NT domain.
