Well the two things that spring to mind are the Mobile Processors and not many Desktops are run by batteries ;-) so check for batteries.

I'd try :

1) obtain the type and id of the network adapter

2) the bios information code

In windows 2000 it's possible force the network adapter to use the native

features indipendently from those garanteed by the driver.

The mechanism is provided by a call to the internal chips of the board.

The board of a laptop has a different signature to identify these features

and only a little firms produces this firm (Intel, 3com).

If you have Lan card in PCMCIA in this case you can couple the suggestion of

Guido AND the presence in PCMCIA bus of a lan card (that is a very strange

situation in desktop configuration)

The second point is that the BIOS producer makes a code very different

between Laptop a Desktop Compute.

The BIOS producer are AWARD and AMI (now only a firm) and in their sites web

you'll find the mode to identify.

Good Work
