You can use set logonserver to get the OS to tell you what it used for an interactive logon. You can use nltest /dsgetdc:domainname to see what its preferred ldap server is. You can use nltest /sc_query to see where the secure channel is.

To force a specific DC to be used you can either set weight/Priority values on the SRV records through Reg mods or you can configure your site topology to support the setup by creating a separate site for the "slow" DC and moving the DC to that site and then keeping the clients and other DC's in the main site. The second method is probably a little easier to keep an eye on though it probably isn't as clean if you are someone who is used to playing with MX records and setting their priority/weight.

Subject: [ActiveDir] Choosing between Domain Controllers

Hi all,

We’re running two domain controllers on the same domain.

My questions are

                                                                                                               i.      what command can you run to see which one your client pc is using

ii.      how can you  change which DC your pc client is using

Reason being, I think one of them is slow, and would rather use the other one to test this theory.

Thanks
