... going out on a limb there aren't we Robbie?? :) Sarcasm aside, it's a point with which I happen to agree. To date, I've experienced no beneficial behaviors when following this "best practice". In fact, having implemented both I have yet to encounter a scenario where one makes any tangible difference over the other. That said, there may still be a reason in later versions of AD, IP or DNS to adhere to this model but; 1) those reasons have never been sufficiently justified to me and 2) by that time it's likely you'll be able to highlight the domain/forest name(s), hit F2 and type a new one :)
