I didn't think that worked if Exchange was in the mix...

and with 2003 you can change the name of the DC afterwards to match the

Recovering to dissimilar hw can be a real pain. The less risky option
would be to bring up the new DC as a second DC, set it to be a GC,
transfer all the FSMOs, configure DNS, WINS, DHCP, and whatever else and
then retire the original DC.

It's likely to be a lot of work given that you also have Exchange, file
and print, etc., but you can stage the work and it might save you
heartache in the long run.

Hi all,

I would like to know if anyone has any pointers or guides that can help
me through replacing the hardware of a DC. This is because I want to
replace the server with a new faster and better machine. I'm not fussed
about downtime as its only a small shop. The server is also running
Exchange 2000. I'm using

Veritas and the agent for Exchange, though I'm not too worried about
this part.

Its the only server in the domain and there are no other domains. I
want to

keep the same server name as its a file and print server too. The old
machine will be recycled in to the user pool.

I have been reading the following guide but the section on the HAL
worries me slightly. Obviously, I want to retain the GUID, the user and
computer accounts and such like.
