Right.  Questions about usage, concurrency, other apps etc will also factor into what you're doing as well as network connections etc.

I would guess that adsizer would be helpful to you in sizing your Active Directory deployment.

Having a good understanding of the types of clients and the usage patterns would be extremely helpful to you in the long run as well.

Good luck Sam,

Al

Perhaps a more relevant question is how you are going to be distributing the load among servers - i.e. are you looking at multiple servers, and what kind of clients?  The PDC emulator can take a big hit with a lot of downlevel clients.  AD can handle it easily, but how well will your server hardware?

Approx 57,000 student accounts I need in a single OU...
about 3,000 student labs PC to join the domain for policies...

Rob if AD supports over 10 million objects I shouldn't have a problem, *hopefully*

One of the questions that hasn't been asked of Rob yet, is what is your expectation once you've loaded x number of objects.

What do you expect from it and how do you expect it to function?

We have loaded up over 100,000,000 objects in a single domain and divided them up amongst 52 OUs.

Computers and Users are represented as objects within AD... I can't remember the exact number of objects which you can get upto but AD supports way over 10 million (someone will telll u the exact number, if not then it will be on the web). I have heard things in the past about some large corp's testing upto a billion objects with success.

Rob

[ActiveDir] Number of user objects in an OU

Hello All,

I am new to this group but already can see that the calibre of the
people present will be a great help...

I am curious to learn the number of user objects that Active Directory
can handle in a single OU, it surely must have a limit, any other
limitations to the number of PC's that can join a domain etc would be
great as well.

Much appreciated,
