It wont be a port issue as you wouldn't gain connectivity at all... If it is a very old firewall then chances are that it may be causing issues.... Will they drop it for a testing period to see if it makes a difference? If it is for their benefit, i.e. their clients then they may? At least that way you could say it's their firewall and they need to update it to gain performance?
