Thank you for this detail information
regarding “Managed by” attributes. If I could add the groups into
the “managed by” field it would be easier for the users who managed
the distribution list. I can get the user/group to have permission to
change membership in the security Tab. Thanks. Hunter From:
[EMAIL PROTECTED] [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] On Behalf Of Burns, Clyde In Exchange 2000 the "Managed
by" field is informational only. It doesn't set any permissions. (Exchange 2003 fixed this btw.) I dont
know how to get a group to show up as the 'managed by' name but I do know how
to get a user /group to have the permissions to change membership of a
distribution list in a 2000 environment To set a group up to manage the membership
list of another group go into the advanced* security of the group object
to be managed. Add the 'Managed by' group/user there. Make sure in the
permission entry window you set it to; Object tab Apply onto: This object and all child
objects All allows unchecked Properties tab Apply onto: This object and all child
objects Read Members - allow Write Members - allow This will give the 'Managed by' group just
the permissions needed to go in and add/remove users to the managed group. This
works just as well for security groups. So if you want, you could manage access
to file/folders/shares through outlook if you mail enabled the security group. *You can add the group in the security tab
then go into advanced but that seems to precheck alot of the allows I didnt
want that object to have. Doing it from the advanced window always gave me a
clean slate to work with. From:
[EMAIL PROTECTED] [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] On Behalf Of Hi, We
have AD 2000 and Exchange 2000 sp4. Both are set for native node. Original we
were in mix mode because of NT domain. Now we are in Native mode but we are
still not able to add group to the “Managed by” attribute on
distribution list. In the MS Exchange 2000 Server Administrator’s
companion, it stated that you can designate as owner nay user, group or contact
in the Global Address Book. Whenever we try to update the “managed
by” field for any distribution list, only users and contacts are list.
Even if we try adding valid group, the “select users and contact”
screen pop up state that it can’t find the group. Since
we were never able to add group to the “managed by” attribute of
Distribution List I am not sure if the system is behaving as design or we are
missing a step when we move AD and exchange to Native mode. If anyone shares
some insight into the problem, I would be greatly appreciated.
