That would take considerabley longer in my enviroment. You would have to clean metadata if server was to come back up with same name (thats a minimum 3 hour and maximum 6 hour wait ). Build server. Restore data. DC Promo. Reconfigure shares.

This doesn't take much longer, doesn't require any extra user intervention than a reimaging and is a far better option I think.
