well, in Exchange server 2003 24/7, he recommends putting the trans logs on a
sperate raid1+0 if you can.
So i thought i'd place the binaries on raid 5, trans logs on raid 1+0, and the
db on raid 1+0 or 5 depending on disks i have.
I figure i'll use the msa 1000 which has about 10 drives in it right now.

unfortuantely there is no way to test this as the msa 1000 is hosting my old
exchange 2k server db's and trans logs.
I think the only way to do this is first install exchange2k3 on the raid 5 with
all the logs and then after the migration and public folder rep and outlook
clients being redirected, decommision the old server and move the db and trans
logs to the msa.
Tell me if this sounds insane

I just hate to see the msa 1000 wasted because if i don't use it for exchange,
it won't be used for anything.

btw, do you know how many raid arrays you can create on a smart array 6i
controller?

thanks a lot
