Right. My understanding of how the patch mechanism works in Windows Installer
is that if it get the redeploy and it detects that it was patched, it should
only execute the code to install the patch, not the whole app over again on the
target machine. From:

Behalf Of Why would he do that? The MSI is on the share for the GPO either directly
or as the result of an administrative install. The correct procedure is to
apply the patch to the distribution point with msiexec and I believe the /p
switch and then Use the redeploy option by right clicking the app in the gpo it
was deployed via. From:
