Title: RE: [ActiveDir] OT: Change Tracking Database

The manual entry is what I was looking for, though the automated process you mention is interesting as well.

Correct me if I'm wrong but doesn't SharePoint require a manual entry by
a live person to record information? Wouldn't the idea of a change
management software be to automate the process of recording the change
so that no change is "forgotten"?

Applications such as Microsoft Operation Manager are great at
automatically tracking changes made in AD and the up/down time of
servers
(http://www.microsoft.com/technet/community/events/mom/tnt1-112.mspx) It
also is great at spitting out the results in a report style format. This
makes our job of presenting the info to our bosses much easier since we
don't have to convert the raw data.

Although MOM is a great tool, I'm personally looking to find a more
holistic approach. Is there truly one piece of software that can track
it ALL automatically? Everything from changing a VLAN, creating a group
in AD, or modifying a router configuration needs to be tracked but I
have yet to see any software that can perform this huge task.

Thanks all (esp. Susan). It will take me a little bit to look through
this.
One thought I had was to repurpose a web-based db from a customer
management system. Each physical (server, switch, etc.) or logical (AD,
DNS, DFS, etc) asset would equal a "customer" and the logs for the phone
conversations, letters mailed, etc would be the actions taken on the
asset.
