You wish. Hosts files are not meant to be used this way.
Local hosts files is needed on the workstations you are doing the
administration from. If they change that frequently, script a period robocopy
task and copy it to the relevant workstations.
The alternative (and more efficient way) is to create (secondary) copies of
each independent office's DNS zone in YOUR DNS server.

Subject: RE: [ActiveDir] hosts file on AD DNS server
I did find another way to do it in the DNS that works fine for now. I just
created another forward lookup zone and started populating that. I'd still
like some portability, since I'd have to update both my laptop's hosts file
and the DNS server. There are a couple of us that perform the same
maintenance and need the same hosts tables. But in the long run, just
maintaining file and DNS isn't that big a deal.
Here's my scenario though, JIC:
We are contracted to maintain a number of offices that are independent of
each other. They are self contained and are no way interconnected. Each
site has its own AD structure with its own DC and connect to the internet
via their own ISP. We perform our maintenance via terminal services or VNC,
etc. I keep the site names and WAN IP addresses in my hosts file on my
laptop. I want to know if I can move that hosts file to our local DNS
server and have it resolve for us. We keep adding sites, and I'd have to
have to copy the hosts file to every workstation in our office.

Yes, the resolver will respect what is in the hosts file. However, in
the year 2006, you should be using DNS. If you elaborate on the
specific need, you might encounter a DNS-based solution - provided by
our fellow list members - that is far superior to playing with the
hosts file.
