If you have a single domain, just make every DC a GC (do this from sites and services - dssite.msc). If you have multiple domains, you will probably want to sit down and read up on GC placement guidelines as Al mentioned, just start googling for MSKB articles or looking at the AD Deployment guides on the MS Website.

Subject: [ActiveDir] multiple catalog servers

Is there a way to have multiple catalog servers?  I have a setup with multiple DC at multiple locations.  Everything works ok until the connectivity is lost between locations.  I was told that the issue is the machines can’t find the catalog server.  Since I only have one, when connectivity is lost, it’s as if the catalog server is down.  So the fix is to have multiple catalog servers, I think.  Does any one have any suggestions?

Antonio.
