It is a shame. The city really needs the business. I've been back 3 times now since the storm and things have definitely gotten better, but it still has a long way to go.
Most of the US has kind of forgotten about it by now, so I'm guessing that many TechEd visitors would be shocked at how messed up things still are down there, even almost 2 years later (which is when TechEd would have been). Of course, most people won't be down in the 9th ward or Chalmette during TechEd, so you wouldn't see the worst of it, but it is still pretty stunning.
