But: Having said that, (and I agree with you) if you don't already know Emacs (or have a desire to learn), its not necessarily the best editor for learning perl.

If you already know Emacs and are not concerned about the fact that its not a CUA93 compliant application, then you'll be fine. Emacs for Windows does not have the same Menu options as most editors under Windows (or under any OS).

Emacs is the best editor for programming - if you are willing to spend time understanding it. And there is a good upside to learning it that many neglect.

Komodo now has limited support for Emacs key bindings. That's a good start for those moving from Emacs to Komodo. There is little help for those trying move the other direction.

Komodo's other "featre" is the Graphical Builder for Perl/Tk Apps.

Subject: RE: IDE for perl development?

I prefer to use Emacs for all my Perl development.  Emacs is easliy customizable even if is not fluent in Lisp and there are numerous .emacs example configuration files.  The thing I like most about Emacs is the ability for custom syntax highlighting.  Then a close second is how easily it is to bind keys in Emacs.

I began with Emacs when I first started learing Perl and have not looked back.
