It isn't made with ajax to "trap errors" but it does use AJAX.  there is no
setting to dump errors to the browser.

It should not be failing silently.  You can check your production log to see
what is failing.  If you want more help to figure out what is going wrong
you need to give more information:  A copy of the database table migration,
the model, and the controller you are using.
