what OS you using? I'm using win2000 but it worked for me in 98 as well. that problem sounds strange. it kinda sounds like they are fighting over which has the defaults. i have outlook express 6 set as my default e-mail prog and NS7 as my default browser and don't have any problems. guess i am lucky. =)
